Pipavav port, the first private port in the country, was developed under the BOOT Policy. The port is operational since 1996 having a multipurpose berth of 725m long for handling solid bulk, containers and one liquid berth for handling liquid cargo. The port is now being managed by APM Mearsk. GPPL has taken up expansion plan of the port under which development of 385 m container berth and deepening of navigational channel have been completed. Further expansion of the port activities have been initiated by GPPL. The Port of Pipavav also takes pride in being the first port in India to receive double-stacked container trains, which has a capacity of carrying 180 TEUs as against 90 TEUs carried in a single stack train.

Investment of approx. Rs. 1500 crores is proposed to be invested for development of world class shipbuilding yard at Pipavav. M/s Swan Energy Ltd. has proposed development of LNG facilities under Pipavav port. Detailed Project Report submitted by the company has been approved by GMB.
