Government of Gujarat has initiated unique steps for planned development around the Mundra Port. Gujarat Maritime Board is preparing a detailed conceptual plan for Mundra port city, a unique city envisaged to become a world-class destination bringing together the global maritime community, placing Gujarat's waterfront at the cutting edge of global commerce.
The proposed site admeasures about 502 sq km for the development of the Mundra Port City envelopes Mundra and Anjar Talukas. Key site selection parameters included strategic location and connectivity, low cropping intensity, key stakeholder's requirements and avoiding ecologically sensitive areas.
The City will provide the core elements of infrastructure required by key maritime and maritime related industries and services. Besides the core focused area of fisheries, horticulture and agriculture segment, Mundra port city shall envisage development of thrust industrial sectors like logistics, light engineering, iron and steel industry, food and agro processing, mineral based and textile industries. Institutional developments, offices, commercial areas, service providing networks are some of the complementary needs envisioned for the growth and sustainability of high end thrust sectors.
The City is projected to be an optimal mix of industrial, commercial, residential and leisure facilities with a greater thrust on development of sound transportation network; real estate and environmental sustainability. This will help attain sustainable growth of the city by decongesting city centers and at the same time accelerating the growth of commercial, institutional and industrial sectors by connecting these cities to smaller towns, suburbs and decentralized hubs of economic activity. This will ease the pressure of rapidly growing pace of urbanization on the limited capacities of these cities.
